Tash Sultana has just achieved their latest in a long series of milestones, taking home their first ARIA #1 album thanks to the recently-released Terra Firma.
Announced today, Sultana’s second album has reached the top spot in the ARIA charts, following on from a strong showing of Aussie talent in recent weeks, with the #1 position being held by The Rubens, The Kid LAROI, Illy, and Bluey, among others.
Released on February 19th, Terra Firma served as Sultana’s second full-length record, and first since the release of 2018’s Flow State, which scored a silver medal on the charts.
The highly-anticipated album had been preceded by a run of singles in recent months – including “Pretty Lady”, “Greed”, “Beyond the Pine”, the Jerome Farah-featuring “Willow Tree”, and “Sweet & Dandy” – with the resulting record showcasing Tash’s continued artistic growth, which is on track to be illustrated at their upcoming gigs.
“2020 was about recording and writing the music. And this year will be about creating the show and bringing it to people,” Tash explained in a statement. “The new live show is everything the live show already was, plus a few things up my sleeve – but you’ll have to be there to understand.”
News of the chart-topping achievement also comes just days after Tash Sultana was named as one of the performers at the inaugural Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards in late March.
Tash Sultana is also set to serve as the next cover artist for Rolling Stone Australia. In a nine-page cover feature, Rolling Stone Australia spoke to Tash following their sold-out show at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion in November – their final performance as a “one-person band”.
Throughout the far-reaching discussion, Tash and Reid touch upon all manner of topics, including the artist’s personal growth and gender affirmation, their new musical direction, and the journey that saw them go from high school class disrupter to bedroom and street performer to selling out venues globally.
