As triple j’s Requestival continues, more and more unexpected cuts have been emerging from the request line, and rocking the airwaves.

The request line has been running hot, with triple j's Requestival turning into a runaway success.

As triple j’s Requestival heads towards the close of its fifth day, listeners are getting an idea of just how eclectic the request line can be.

First announced last week, the Requestival is exactly what it sounds like, with triple j allowing listeners to choose the playlist for the work week, with every track between 6am and 9pm being by request only.

Of course, this isn’t the first time listeners have been able to choose the content on triple j. Why their annual Hottest 100 is the largest public-voted music poll in the world, and previous events such as their Impossible Music Festival have seen fans choose a weekend of archival programming

Following a rather wild first few days of the event, the station has again found itself at the mercy of listeners who have been flexing their musical knowledge to dig out some real deep cuts.

In typical fashion though, things took a turn for the strange almost immediately, with Sally & Erica sharing the Pokémon theme within the first hour, before classic pop cuts such as Alice Deejay’s “Better off Alone” began to trickle forth.

A handful of Like a Version recordings accompanied the announcement of the segment’s return, while appearances from Pitbull, DJ Ötzi, Kylie Minogue, Tiësto, Shaggy, *NSYNC, and LMFAO proved that it’s not just the left-of-centre indie tracks that triple j can give a spin.

While Andy Garvey offered up a request-filled Friday Mix, Hobba & Hing helped close out the week by adding in the likes of the infamous almost-infiltrator of the 2014 Hottest 100; Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off”.

triple j’s Requestival runs until Sunday, May 31st, with the request line still open via the triple j app. Relive the action from day one, day two, day three, and day four here, and check out the day five playlist below.
