The request line has been running hot, with triple j's Requestival turning into a runaway success.

As triple j’s Requestival tends towards the close of its second day, listeners are getting an idea of just how eclectic the request line can be.

First announced last week, the Requestival is exactly what it sounds like, with triple j allowing listeners to choose the playlist for the work week, with every track between 6am and 9pm being by request only.

Of course, this isn’t the first time listeners have been able to choose the content on triple j. Why their annual Hottest 100 is the largest public-voted music poll in the world, and previous events such as their Impossible Music Festival have seen fans choose a weekend of archival programming

Following a wild first day yesterday, the station has again found itself at the mercy of listeners who have been flexing their musical knowledge to dig out some real deep cuts.

While the second song of the day saw Sandi Thom’s “I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair)” make a rare appearance on the station, everything seemed rather normal for some time, with Breakfast hosts Sally & Erica asking listeners to request the songs that soundtracked their first solo drive.

Before long, Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” found itself on the airwaves, before the station dug up  Scatman John’s “Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)”, and went ABC Classics for a brief moment, dishing out Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C Minor”.

The world of pop also found a solid look-in today as well, with the likes of  Britney Spears’ “Gimme More”, Fergie’s “”Fergalicious”, Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8r Boi”, and “Superstar (Hollywood Royalty Remix)”, from RuPaul’s Drag Race all finding their way onto the radio. Meanwhile, Hobba & Hing utilised some love song dedications to dish out classics such as Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”.

One notable moment occurred near the start of the day though, with Geelong’s Good Sniff finding themselves on the airwaves with “Louie the Milk Man”, a tribute penned about their late friend and frontman Louie Sherman, who passed away in late April.

“At the time we had so much adrenaline rushing, we just jammed out this tune in a day, and it’s dedicated to Louie,” Lachlan and Elias of Good Sniff explained to Sally & Erica on triple j Breakfast.

“I hope he’s up there going absolutely crazy in a moshpit and having a good time.”

triple j’s Requestival runs until Sunday, May 31st, with the request line still open via the triple j app. Relive the action from day one here, and check out the day two playlist below.
