Auckland pop star on the rise YAHYAH has delivered her latest pop anthem, “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”.
The song came together during a jam session with EDY and Sam V. “It was our first session together and we stumbled across a banger,” YAHYAH reveals.
“This song is about stepping away from a situation/person that doesn’t serve you anymore. And realising your worth and telling them to sort themselves out, otherwise they’re no longer welcome in your life. It’s a stand! Man up or you’re out of my sight, out of my mind!”
As for how the song sounds, YAHYAH adds, “It’s sassy and fun and will make ya wanna groove.”
YAHYAH’s single is accompanied by a stylish music video, directed by the always reliable Tom Grut (“Mister Tom Grut out here making dreams come true,” she wrote about the director and photographer on Instagram), which you can watch below.
It’s been a busy period for YAHYAH. Aside from dropping her latest single, she’s completed writing sessions in Sydney, a tour speaking and performing at the National Young Leaders events, and also hosted the Smokefree Rockquest Finals.
“Out of Sight, Out of Mind” follows YAHYAH’s positively received 2023 EP, 7 Lovers, which she broke down in greater detail for Rolling Stone AU/NZ last year.
Featuring singles like “How I’m Feeling RN” and “Sad Girl”, the five-track collection was a personal journey about the importance of self-love. “These songs as a project are a piece of my heart and ultimately about the journey of finding love in myself,” YAHYAH said about 7 Lovers.
Last year saw the singer-songwriter showcase her music in Australia at BIGSOUND 2023, and she also completed a national EP release tour which culminated with a show at BIG FAN in Auckland.
YAHYAH’s “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” is out now.
