Just weeks before its rescheduled dates were supposed to commence, Jimmy Barnes has officially announced the cancellation of his forthcoming Flesh and Blood tour.
Having originally announced the run of tour dates back in April, Barnes was due to hit the road in July, in support of his latest album, Flesh and Blood. However, due to the uncertainty of border closures, Barnes was forced to reschedule his Perth concert, before soon announcing the entire run of dates would be shifted to September in response to COVID-related matters.
Now, with the tour supposed to kick off on September 2nd, Barnes has officially cancelled the tour, urging fans to get vaccinated so that wide-scale touring may return sooner rather than later.
“My band, my crew and music fans around the country are all doing it really tough right now so these latest round of cancelled gigs will be yet another kick in the guts for them at a really bad time,” Barnes explained in a statement. “Hopefully if we all do the right things and get vaccinated as soon as possible then we’ll be enjoying gigs together before too much longer.”
With much of the country in lockdown, these cancellations were almost expected, with Barnes noting that recently announced State Government schemes in WA, NSW and VIC would help compensate the tour promoter and tour workers for some of their losses on this tour.
“It’s a real pity that the QLD and SA governments haven’t bothered to match these other States by introducing similar schemes,” he added. “I don’t know what they’re waiting for. The music community is really on its knees right now so I think QLD and SA should seriously consider stepping up like the other states have already done.”
While fans have been advised that refunds will be automatically given, Frontier Touring has also announced that an exclusive discount offer is being made available for merch which had been prepared for the upcoming dates. Fans are advised to use the code ‘FRONTIER’ to take advantage of the offer, with all profits from the sale of these items will go directly to Jimmy’s band and crew.
