Jimmy Barnes Plots National ‘Flesh and Blood’ Tour

“If 2020 taught me anything it’s that Facebook and YouTube videos can be fun but they’re no substitute for a real gig,” Barnes notes.

Just one month on from the release of his “Flesh and Blood” single, and the announcement of his new album of the same name, Jimmy Barnes has now unveiled a national run of tour of dates set to take place in July.

Announced yesterday, the upcoming tour dates will kick off on July 2nd, coinciding with the release of Barnes’ 20th solo album, Flesh and Blood. With numerous members of his family in tow, the tour will visit theatres in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Sydney, and undoubtedly serves as the end of an unintentionally-lengthy dry spell for the veteran performer.

“It’s great to be back playing live again,” Barnes explains. “It was good to get some downtime at home for a change but now we’re hungry to get back onstage together. If 2020 taught me anything it’s that Facebook and YouTube videos can be fun but they’re no substitute for a real gig.”

With Flesh and Blood set to arrive in early July, Barnes first premiered the album’s title track at the state funeral for Michael Gudinski, who had been playing the song on repeat prior to his untimely passing, according to son Matthew Gudinski.

The record also brings together a number of Barnes’ close and extended family, including son Jackie on drums, while daughters Mahalia, Eliza-Jane and Elly-May all contribute vocals, along with Jackie and granddaughter, Tyra Harrison. Meanwhile, son-in-law, Ben Rodgers pulled engineering duties, played bass, and collaborated with Barnes’ nephew and renowned photographer Jesse Lizotte on the album cover. Finally, wife Jane also duets with Barnes on the classic “Love Hurts”.

“I realise lots of people have struggled badly during the last year but I’ve been able to stop and count my blessings,” Barnes said in a statement. “Jane and I have been married for four decades but I’ve basically always been on the road so this was literally the first time we’ve ever spent so many months at home.

“It made me realise how lucky I am to be surrounded by our big musical family. As you can tell from all those songs we posted online we really like to sing with each other, so making an album with lots of the people I love felt like a natural way to help us pass this time together.”
