Hockey Dad have been forced to push their upcoming drive-in shows back, with excessive flooding cited as the reason rather than COVID-19.

First announced back in May, Hockey Dad were set to celebrate the release of their postponed album Brain Candy with a pair of drive-in performances at Wollongong’s Bulli Showground. Set to take place on Friday and Saturday evening, the shows have now been pushed back due to substantial rainfall, with the group breaking the news via social media.

“We’ve got some pretty bad news for your Wednesday morning,” explained drummer Zach Stephenson, showcasing the soaked venue. “Unfortunately, we are going to have to postpone the drive-in shows, which is unbelievably disappointing for us and especially the people that were going to be coming to the shows.”

“We are absolutely gutted… so sorry to everyone who bought tickets,” the band added in a statement. “We’ve all been looking forward to this for so long and it’s real upsetting.”

“2020 has thrown a lot at us. Fires, COVID19, but it’s the rain that’s put the brakes on these two shows,” continued Farmer & The Owl’s Ben Tillman.

“To have 400 cars each night on the Bulli Showground after all the rain we’ve had just isn’t safe or logistically possible. It would have turned into a big mud pit, everyone would have gotten bogged and no one would be getting out of there, which ultimately would have meant the 2nd show got cancelled anyways.”

“It’s a hard decision to make but the safety of fans and our ability to execute the event to the best standard is paramount.”

While refunds are being made available via the point of purchase, the duo have moved the shows to the later date of October 9th and 10th.

Meanwhile, Hockey Dad also rescheduled their album tour earlier this month, with the pair hitting the road in April of 2021 in support of their new record.

Hockey Dad’s Brain Candy is set to be released on Friday, July 31st, with pre-orders available now.
