ALWAYS LIVE, Victoria’s newest major music event, has announced exciting additions of local and international artists to its already packed 2022 lineup.
Wergaia/Wemba Wemba singer-songwriter Alice Skye will be performing in Horsham as part of Hometown, a special concert series that sees acclaimed First Nations performers return to their hometowns for one-off shows alongside rising local acts.
Punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers will head to the state’s Goldfields region to headline the cult festival Chopped, a three-day event featuring hundreds of cars and bikes alongside the competing sounds of over 25 rock bands.
From further afield, Welsh indie icon Cate Le Bon returns to Australia and will perform twice in Victoria. She’ll celebrate the release of Pompeii, her sixth full-length studio album, at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel and Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal.
Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl will play host to a headline performance by beloved Texan psych-funk group Khruangbin. They’ll be joined by L.A. saxophonist and composer Kamasi Washington and Melbourne’s own psych-jazz outfit Mildlife.
ALWAYS LIVE is the largest event of this nature in the Southern Hemisphere, enhancing the cultural influence of Melbourne and Victoria as the home of live music in Australia. “We’re committed to delivering a program that reflects and represents the incredible energy and atmosphere of contemporary live music in Victoria,” Emily Ulman, Director of Programming of ALWAYS LIVE, said.
“Adding these shows to our growing program enhances the existing exceptional live contemporary music offerings across our state. We’re so excited to be working in collaboration with a range of talented industry partners to curate an event that will attract global attention to our beloved world-class Victorian scene.”
