Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are set to make a long-overdue homecoming this year, announcing a pair of special shows to take place at Hanging Rock this November.

It was just last month that Cave gave fans a taste of what has not yet been announced, revealing on his Red Hand Files site that he and Ellis would be visiting their native country in November and December of this year as part of their global CARNAGE tour plans.

Though a full run of national dates have not yet been announced, Cave and Ellis have however unveiled the jewel in the crown of their forthcoming plans, announcing two special performances in November.

Taking place as part of ALWAYS LIVE (which recently launched with the one-off Foo Fighters concert in Geelong), the pair will perform two special shows at Hanging Rock in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges. Scheduled for Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of November, these two dates will see the duo joined by Courtney Barnett. Full ticketing details are available below.

Cave and Ellis’ professional partnership spans close to 30 years now, with Ellis first working with Cave in 1993 when he performed violin on The Bad Seeds’ Let Love In record. Since then, they’ve kept close, with Ellis joining The Bad Seeds as a fully-fledged member, and even working with Cave as a member of Grinderman in the ’00s.

Last year though, the pair’s latest creative effort was released, with CARNAGE serving as their debut full-length release as a duo. Critical reception to the album was overwhelmingly positive, with the record also reaching #2 on the Australian charts, and even scoring a nomination for the Australian Music Prize.

2022 also brought with it news that Cave and Ellis would be the subject of the forthcoming documentary, This Much I Know to Be True.

Directed by Andrew Dominik (who also created Once More With Feeling, focusing on The Bad Seeds), a press release explains that the film captures “Nick Cave and Warren Ellis’ exceptional creative relationship as they bring to life the songs from albums, Ghosteen and CARNAGE“.
