Tones And I Releases New Singles “Bad Child” and “Can’t Be Happy All the Time”

“This is the first of a bunch of songs I’m releasing this year and I can’t wait to share more,” Tones And I said in a statement.

She’s never really left the limelight at all over the last year, but Tones And I is back with not one, but two new singles.

There’s no denying the fact that Tones And I has had an absolutely stellar year. Within the space of just 12 months, Toni Watson managed to go from being a busker in Byron Bay to not only topping charts around the world with her song “Dance Monkey”, but breaking records left and right, capturing the attention of icons such as Elton John, and recently hitting one billion streams for the single.

Having recently wrapped up a run of shows as part of the Laneway Festival lineup, fans realised that a larger tour would be arriving sometime soon after the musician closed her set by revealing she would see us again in May.

While new songs like “You’re So Fucking Cool” recently got a look in during her live shows, fans had wondered when they might finally get some new tunes to add into their Spotify playlists to help Tones take over the world once again.

Now, their answer has come, with the artist sharing her first new songs since her The Kids Are Coming EP.

A double A-side release, “Bad Child” and “Can’t Be Happy All the Time” feature Tones And I breaking new ground with her songwriting, penning the tracks based on her own experiences, and from the point of view of another.

“”Can’t Be Happy All the Time” is a song about the struggles of rising to fame so quickly and dealing with a dramatic change in lifestyle – the good and bad that comes with it,” Tones said in a statement, before focusing on “Bad Child”.

“I’ve always wanted to write a song in someone else’s shoes; writing from their perspective. “Bad Child” was the first time I got to do that. It’s seeing life growing up through someone else’s eyes.”

With an Australian tour set to kick off in May after a regional run with Groovin The Moo, it seems that 2020 is only really just kicking off for the world-beating artist. “This is the first of a bunch of songs I’m releasing this year and I can’t wait to share more,” she added.
