Described as a “forward-thinking album for a backward year”, The Rubens had their recording efforts hampered by the outbreak of COVID-19.

Months after the band had intended for it to appear, The Rubens have formally announced the release of their upcoming fourth album, 0202.

Having shared the single “Live in Life” in November of 2019, The Rubens were ostensibly looking towards mid-2020 as the timeframe in which they would release their fourth album. However, when COVID-19 restrictions hampered progress and postponed their tour back in March, the group revealed that they had been in the final recording stages, but were left unable to visit the studio as a result.

Since then, they’d continued to share new music, including new singles “Heavy Weather” and “Time of My Life”, as a means to raise anticipation for the forthcoming record. Now, the group have finally revealed their long-awaited record will arrive in February of 2021, sharing the clip for their most recent single in the process.

“We wrote ‘Time of My Life’ before COVID, but we knew at the time that the song had a nostalgic feel to it,” the group explained. “Once we started getting emails from year 12 students and teachers, we realised it could be more meaningful.

“We got together with our good mate and collaborative partner Russ and he directed the video. We wanted it to be a homage to Year 12 Class Of 2020.”

The single is set to arrive on their new album, 0202, which is described as a “forward-thinking album for a backward year”. Their most assured record to date, the album effortlessly switches genres, traversing the realms of alt-rock, pop, R&B, and hip-hop as they unveil a self-produced record destined to completely change everything fans know about the group.

“We’re so bloody proud of this album and the way we created it, and we can’t believe how lucky we are to have made it this far,” the group explained. “Thanks to all our fans for being there, we can’t wait for you to hear this one!”

News of the new record also comes just days after the band received an ARIA nomination for Song of the Year for “Live in Life”. Meanwhile, the band are currently on track to finally embark on their extensive tour of the same now in April of 2021, with details available below.

The Rubens’ 0202 will be released on February 12th, 2021 via Ivy League Records, with pre-orders available now.
