PARK RD have returned with their second single of the year, “Secrets”.

Another guitar-driven indie anthem, “Secrets” sounds ready-made for euphoric gig singalongs. That makes sense: the Auckland band had been testing out their new song on the road over the past six months.

PARK RD worked on the song with Sam McCarthy and Macey at Parachute Music last year. “Secrets” was inspired by DMA’S and the 1975, two bands PARK RD consistently seem to be emulating in their sound.

“She knows all my secrets… here I go wasting all my time,” frontman Tom Chamberlain cries in the lovelorn chorus. Is there no mystery left in love?

It’s much less mellow than previous 2023 single “Ride”, a moody and dreamy song which was PARK RD’s first new material in over a year. Excitingly for PARK RD fans, both “Ride” and “Secrets” will feature on the band’s upcoming debut album, which is edging closer to its release date. The record, which doesn’t have a title yet, will be the follow-up to last year’s well-received EP, Stupid Stories.

PARK RD have lots of shows and showcases lineup up for the final six months of the year. They’ll launch “Secrets” with at Hamilton’s Last Place on Friday, August 25th, and at Ohakune’s Turoa Lodge the following day (ticket information here).

After appearing at Going Global Music Summit 2023 in their hometown at the beginning of September, they’ll then support Summer Thieves at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday, September 15th, before heading to SXSW Sydney the following month.

They should be ready for that showcase after a busy year of polishing and fine-tuning their live performances, from appearing at festivals such as Rhythm & Vines, Soundsplash, and Le Currents, to supporting the aforementioned Summer Thieves and Spacey Jane, the latter sounding like a clear sonic influence on the band.

PARK RD’s “Secrets” is out now.
