PARK RD have wrapped up their big year with their final single of 2024, “English Boy”.
The high-energy track shows a grittier side to the Auckland indie rockers, hinting at an edgier sound they’ve got lined up for 2025.
Produced by the band alongside Jol Mulholland (Neil & Liam Finn, Connan Mockasin), “English Boy” is their first release since dropping their debut album The Novel back in May.
Rolling Stone AU/NZ were fans of the album, calling it “packed with singalong choruses and headily youthful songwriting,” and giving a nod to PARK RD’s knack for churning out polished, catchy tracks.
“The songs on The Novel are, almost to a fault at some junctures, pristinely polished for commercial viability, but increased experimentation and narrative risks can, for the PARK RD boys, wait until a second album,” the review continued.
“For now, The Novel achieves what any debut collection should: it gathers their most memorable singles together, while also providing just enough moments of sonic intrigue between those standout moments.”
Since the album’s release in May, the band’s been busy, supporting The Rions on an Australian tour and headlining shows across New Zealand and Australia.
Now, “English Boy” is here just in time for a jam-packed summer, with the band set to headline the Garden Stage at Rhythm and Vines, play festivals like Le Currents and Electric Avenue, and embark on a co-headline tour with pop duo Foley.
