A new arts and culture festival is heading to Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains next month, with Miss Kaninna set to headline its free opening night event.

Taking place on Dharug and Gundungurra Country, Superposition will kick off with Portal Penrith at the Sydney Regatta Centre on Thursday, November 26th, before expanding to Katoomba, Blackheath, Medlow Bath, Mount Victoria, Lawson and Wentworth Falls over the weekend. Leading the opening night lineup is rising First Nations rapper and singer Miss Kaninna, who has quickly established herself as one of Australia’s most exciting new voices.

The Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali artist made waves in 2024 with her debut single “Blak Britney”, which reached No. 1 on triple j and earned three ARIA nominations, making her the first independent Aboriginal woman to receive an ARIA nomination for a debut single. She’s continued to build momentum since, picking up nine further ARIA nominations across 2025 and 2026, while her debut EP, KANINNA, took home two AIR Awards in 2025. Late last year, she also joined Irish rap trio Kneecap for 18 sold-out shows across the UK and Europe.

Joining her on the lineup is Aotearoa-born, Western Sydney-raised rapper and singer DEVAURA, another rising name in Australia’s hip hop scene. After winning the Justin Cosby Best Emerging Act award at SXSW Sydney, two FBi SMAC Awards and triple j Unearthed’s Laneway Competition in 2025, she’s now up for Best Hip Hop/Rap Release at the 2026 ARIA Awards for her EP Vol. 2 If You Don’t Laugh, You’ll Cry.

Keeping the music going between sets will be Samoan DJ, MC and podcaster Rocky Stallone. A member of the House of Silky and founder of Blaq Co, a platform celebrating queer people of colour, Stallone also features on “Party”, from Troye Sivan’s album She’s the Best.

Beyond the live music, Portal Penrith will bring together a mix of performance art, dance and community experiences. Choreographer Amrita Hepi will present Stunt Ballet, a performance combining dance and jet ski stunts on the water, while Melbourne collective Deep Soulful Sweats will get the crowd moving with a group exercise session organised by star sign. The evening will also feature a river ritual led by Fio Gede Parma on the banks of the Nepean, drawing inspiration from Balinese holy water traditions and Celtic river-goddess mythology. The ritual will be recorded for festivalgoers travelling to the Blue Mountains.

Elsewhere in Penrith, The Joan Performing Arts Centre will host the world premiere of She Rested, a new song cycle exploring motherhood, written and performed by Aimée Falzon. Presented by UTP and Kurinji, the production features video by Eddie Abd and dramaturgy by Dr Jessica Olivieri and S. Shakthidharan. The Grounds of Lewers at Penrith Regional Gallery will also get involved, hosting live music and shadow puppetry from Bria McCarthy, poetry by Elyas Alavi, a beading workshop with Sione Mōnu, and a drop-in workshop with Potluck ARI, alongside local DJs and food from Café at Lewers.
