Perth outfit The Money War have expanded to a trio to showcase a handful of acoustic gems for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.
These last few years have undoubtedly been big ones for Dylan and Carmen Ollivierre, otherwise known as WA duo The Money War. Having released their debut album last year, a lifetime of music has been paired with that of a new life, with the group welcoming their new baby into the world as well.
This love of their new familial addition has resulted in the writing of their second album, Morning People, which arrives on November 20th, and sees the pair continuing their homegrown approach to their craft, self-producing the album and delivering something truly special along the way.
“The album was recorded at our studio in Fremantle and produced by us,” Dylan explained in a statement around the album’s announcement. “We toyed with the idea of getting an outside producer for this album (something we’ve never done) but when we got further into writing we felt like we had a really strong vision that we needed to realise on our own.
“I feel like each song is trying something sonically new for us – they’re all little moments and emotions that we felt along the journey of having a baby.”
With the new album out tomorrow, The Money War have taken to their Fremantle studio to showcase a handful of tracks from the record, which they explain depicts the “journey of finding out you’re going to be parents and then finally meeting the little guy”.
Kicking things off with the gorgeous “Lifetime”, the group’s gorgeous lyricism and powerful deliveries are on full display as they offer up a truly magical performance. As the set continues, they show off the recently-released “Beautiful You”, before giving folks a taste of what to expect on the new album with “Wish You Were Here”.
