Sydney locals grentperez and Lime Cordiale have joined forces for a new single, “Op Shop Lover”.
It’s been a relatively busy time for both, with Lime Cordiale still riding the success of last year’s Idris Elba-featuring Cordi Alba EP, while grentperez is currently touring Australia and New Zealand with Rex Orange County having just finished shows in the Philippines and Japan.
Arriving just in time for summer, “Op Shop Lover” sounds like you’re browsing the racks of a dusty op shop looking for a steal, and captures the thrill that comes with finding something you like and wearing it the next day.
“”Op Shop Lover” is a light-hearted, carefree jam,” grentperez says. “It’s about going to thrift stores with your partner, having fun trying on endless amounts of clothes, living life with no plans! The song to accompany your op shop journey.”
“There’s nothing cooler than someone that loves thrift-shops and clothes from old grandpas so we had to write about it,” Lime Cordiale add. “It was so fun putting this song together. We have the same sense of humour and musical taste. Very excited to release this to the world. Hopefully you find the record in an op shop one day.”
A Lime Cordiale co-sign comes at an ideal time for grentperez. Following his support slot for Rex Orange County, he’ll embark on a massive North American headline tour, before finishing the year with his biggest Australian and New Zealand tour to date.
“Op Shop Lover’ follows grentperez’s EP, When We Were Younger, released earlier this year, a seven-track collection centred around the concept of nostalgia. According to grentperez, the EP was “a collection of music each relating to figures of the past whether it be in love, loss, families, and friendship.”
grentperez’s “Op Shop Lover” (ft. Lime Cordiale) is out now.
