At long last, Clairo is back. The indie-pop songwriter, a.k.a. Claire Cottrill, will release her new album Charm on July 12.

To preview the record, Cottill dropped “Sexy to Someone,” a summer stunner with cozy production and whimsical instrumentation. The chorus features a classic Clairo line anyone can relate to: “I need to get out of the house.”

Charm marks Cottrill’s third album, following 2021’s excellent Sling. She’s once again changed up her co-producer, working this time with Leon Michels, who previously produced Norah Jones, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and more (Cottrill’s 2019 debut Immunity featured Rostam, while Jack Antonoff assisted with Sling).

Like Sling, Charm was recorded at Allaire Studios just outside of Woodstock, New York, as well as Diamond Mine Recording in Queens. It was recorded live to tape — a completely analog process that features Cottrill’s palette of instruments ranging from horns to vintage synthesizers.

When Rolling Stone followed Cottrill to Allaire for her 2021 cover story, she spoke about the influence Upstate New York had on her record: “Seeing mountains every day when you’re making music, I suddenly felt the urge to put a horn on a song,” she said. We look forward to whatever Charm has in store.
