Georgia Lines’ popular music web series, INTROS, is being hosted on Rolling Stone AU/NZ for the first time this year.
The new series of INTROS features Lines sitting down with her favourite female and non-binary artists for a relaxed kōrero. Each episode focuses on the artist’s chosen song, delving into the story behind the song and the process of writing, before the artist will treat viewers to a live performance.
In the third episode of season three, Lines interviews soulful Samoan/Māori artist Jordyn with a Why (a great artist name but gruelling for autocorrect), who has been making waves with her ethereal R&B songs over the past few years.
Described as “Aotearoa’s Indigenous sweetie lover girl” by CubaDupa (she’ll perform at the Wellington festival later this month), Jordyn with a Why released several swooning anthems last year, including “He Rei Niho”, which followed her well-received 2022 release “Brown Melodies”, which was nominated for Best Single at the 2022 Māori Awards.
In 2023, a prominent showcase arrived for the musician when she headed to SXSW Sydney armed with her beautiful waiata.
Building on her promising 2022 and 2023, Jordyn with a Why enters 2024 with big plans for her music and career. In episode three of the new season of INTROS, which you can watch above, Lines and Jordyn with a Why explore life and music in a thoughtful conversation. The latter also performs one of her singles for the host and her viewers.
“I’d like to introduce you to the beautiful Jordyn with a Why!” Lines, who released her tender new ballad, “Grow Old Without You”, last week, says.
“Juggling being a māmā, an incredible songwriter, and an artist alongside being a wonderful human!!! This was such a beautiful conversation, talking about her experience of the industry, reclaiming her Reo, and the hope she has for the future!”
