Neck of the Woods is back.
Last month, owners of the beloved Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland venue announced that it would be closing its doors for good after 11 years.
An incredible period of community action quickly followed, including a Give a Little campaign started by NYMPHO, and Neck of the Woods was given a much-needed lifeline.
Earlier today (July 5th), the venue’s owners revealed details of its first official relaunch event.
“Nau mai hoki mai ki a Neck of the Woods! We are very excited to welcome you back to Neck of the Woods!” they wrote in an Instagram post. Thanks to our incredible community coming together, we are no longer closing!”
The first event back is ‘Hoki Mai’, which will take place this Friday, July 10th, “a chance to come together with new and old friends and celebrate who we are.”
‘Hoki Mai’ falls on Matariki, and Neck of the Woods has booked a stellar lineup of Māori and Pasifika DJs for the occasion: DJ Brenda, Dirty Knees, Dylan Biscuit & AJ Honeysuckle, Kaiviti, L.I.P Service, Teddyyy B2B Man(k)ila, and Tuna_Tunes.

“Matariki is a time for reflection, rebirth and looking to the future so we feel reopening during this season is a tohu pai, a really good sign,” the Instagram post added.
“We obviously have a lot of mahi ahead of us to repair and reimagine this music venue system for ourselves, for our community and for the scene in general but let’s take this moment to breathe and leave it all on the dance floor for a moment.”
Tickets to the event can be purchased here.

Neck of the Woods held a community hui this weekend to discuss its future.
“We have a lot of short term, mid term and long term goals established now and our first short term goal is some kind of membership card!” an Instagram post about the event revealed.
“This was only our first hui and we will absolutely be holding more. We can’t have everything decided on before we reopen but at least now we have some next steps in place.”
