Sydney-based trio GRXCE have certainly been ones to watch. Following the release of their second EP things i should probably keep to myself last year, their rise to success keeps on going.
The EP acts as an ode to oversharing, messy feelings, and the thoughts usually hidden away in your journal, threading together raw emotion inspired by Phoebe Bridgers, intensity like Paramore, and the sharp alt-rock edge of the likes of Blondshell and Momma.
GRXCE delve deep into the introspections of womanhood, heartbreak, and how it feels to be navigating your 20s in today’s world, constantly pushing the envelope on how they deliver their work to their listeners.
Things i should probably keep to myself followed 2024’s debut EP Sorry for Being Sad, which was supported with a massive headline tour, where they played shows in Melbourne, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Wollongong, Sydney, and Port Macquarie. The EP was drenched in longing and angst following frontwoman Jamila Grace’s personal journey with her mental health.
“It’s a coming of age story starting from when I moved 7 hrs away from my regional hometown of Corindi Beach to experiencing my first break-up and first mental health diagnosis with anxiety,” she explained upon its release. “It centres heavily around how my anxiety diagnosis impacted experiences in love, friendship and growing up. It has been a super reflective process and really feels like a full circle experience.”
More recently, the band played Good Gumnets Festival in Tasmania, and will soon play Outlines in Newcastle and A Day Well Spent in Berry later this month.
