Country star Brad Cox has released his new, “country adjacent” album Endemic Intelligence in Multiple Dimensions.
Showcasing a bold sonic left turn, the album marks a new chapter for Cox.
“I definitely didn’t feel trapped by country music, but I haven’t been influenced by country music in the last couple of years,” he said in a Rolling Stone AU/NZ interview earlier this year. “For me, country music sits here and probably always will. I live that life, but it is just the next chapter.”
Cox also told us about his maturing outlook in the same interview.
“I mean, I think I’ve matured as a songwriter, as a bloke. I’m 30. I’m starting to figure out life a little bit,” he revealed. “I think particularly for males, it takes a while, and in the last few years I understand a little bit better about the way the world works and what’s important in life.”
In a press statement, Cox explained more about his thinking behind his new album: “I want to write about things that I really give a shit about. It’s not enough anymore just writing about driving down a dirt road or sitting around having a great time drinking beers, as right now there’s people dying on the street because they can’t pay the rent and that upsets me, you know? It’s important to me.”

To celebrate his new album, Cox is heading out on a run of exclusive album launch shows. At shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Newcastle, Cox and his band will return to the small venues where they first honed their craft (more information here).
As for that, um, strange album title?
“I wanted people to pretty much go, ‘What is this bloke on about?’” he told us of the record’s eyebrow-raising title. “That’s about as much as I’m going to say on it. I think it’s going to make people think about it, question it, and then, hopefully, go and listen to the record I’ve just worked really hard on.”
Brad Cox’s Endemic Intelligence in Multiple Dimensions is out now via Warner Music Australia.
