Hosted on Rolling Stone AU/NZ for the second time, INTROS is back to introduce you to the best rising stars in New Zealand music.

Georgia Lines’ popular music web series sees the Kiwi pop singer-songwriter sitting down with her favourite female and non-binary artists for a relaxed kōrero. Each episode focuses on the artist’s chosen song, delving into the story behind the song and the process of writing, before the artist treats viewers to a live performance.

Kicking off season four is Aubrie Mitchell, a young Māori (Ngāti Raukawa) multi-hyphenate – she’s a songwriter, producer, and audio engineer – based in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Citing notable New Zealand producers Joel Little and Josh Fountain as influences, Mitchell works across “quite an amalgamation of genres,” but likes to hone in on minimalist art-pop and contemporary dance music.

“I firmly believe that less is more,” she says of her approach to making music. ““I also like to keep people on their toes and keep things interesting.

“I don’t have any genre in mind or any outcome that I want to achieve. I just start writing and producing simultaneously and follow where the song goes within the first few hours.”

Having helped other musicians while working in studio supervision, audio engineering, and music producer roles at BIG FAN studios in Auckland, Mitchell is ready to show the music world what she can do on her own this year and beyond.

In episode one of the new season of INTROS, which you can watch above, Lines and Mitchell explore life and music in a thoughtful conversation. Mitchell reveals all about her journey with music theory and classical music, what it was like becoming a solo artist after working as a producer for so many years, the advice she would give to aspiring producers and artists, and much more. Mitchell also performs a stunning song for the host and her viewers.

“She is one of the loveliest humans, so hard-working and very calm under pressure, and we are just so happy to have her as our first episode back for INTROS 2025!” Lines says.

Lines released her debut album, The Rose of Jericho, to wide acclaim last year. Rolling Stone AU/NZ gave it a four-star review, and The Rose of Jericho also featured prominently in our 50 Best New Zealand Albums of 2024 list.
