Georgia Gets By, aka BROOD’s Georgia Nott, has released her new solo EP, Split Lip.

Born from the end of her first queer relationship, the EP’s deeply personal songs reveal a surprising and raw vulnerability that Nott finds both beautiful and a bit daunting.

“When people don’t hold back in their art it’s really beautiful to me,” she says.

Tracks like “Madeline,” “Some Kind of Angel” (co-written with Grammy-nominated producer Billboard, known for work with Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, and Blackpink), and the title track highlight Nott’s emotional depth and strong songwriting skills.

The final single “Not This Time,” explores the discomfort of returning to an old love, only to find it no longer fits. The live performance video, directed by Scott Sweitzer and featuring John Velasquez on bass and Ray Suen on violin, captures this theme with heartfelt honesty. You can watch it below.

“’Not This Time’ is about returning to an ex and scraping the bottom of the barrel of intimacy,” Nott explains. “Seeking the familiar comfort of their arms around you. Trying to go back to your old home and coming to terms with the fact that you don’t belong there anymore.”

Nott credits the EP’s success to working with long-time friends and collaborators.“It’s impossible to make the kind of art that I make on my own,” she explains.

Following a decade fronting the electronic pop project BROODS, Split Lip continues Nott’s transition from her solo debut FISH BIRD BABY BOY, which marked a shift towards stripped-back, guitar-driven indie pop and moodier acoustic textures.

Nott’s Georgia Gets By solo project was first previewed with “When All You Can Manage Is a Sigh,” which earned a spot as a Song You Need to Know on Rolling Stone AU/NZ. The track was praised for its “tender ballad with gentle drumming and soft keyboard melodies, offering solace during tough times.”

Nott’s recent shows across three countries have highlighted her on-stage confidence, honed from years of touring with BROODS. She’s set to join Canadian singer-songwriter Ruby Waters for upcoming shows in the States next month.
