The hosts and performers for the 2023 Panhead Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards have been unveiled.
This year’s awards will take place at St Matthew-in-the-City in Auckland on Wednesday, September 20th, promising a star-studded night in celebration of the best in Kiwi music.
Radio hosts Sharyn Casey and Megan Papas will host next week’s ceremony. Casey is one-third of The Edge’s Drive show, a host of Dancing with the Stars, and a celebrity panellist on The Masked Singer. Papas is a fellow broadcaster and influencer, who currently hosts Days on The Hits having previously helmed ZM Breakfast.
“I can’t bloody wait to be back hosting the Rolling Stone Awards, this year with one of the most talented wahine I know, Megan Papas,” Casey says. “It’s going to be such a great night celebrating local music and some epic performances!”
Papas adds: “I’m honoured, and so excited to be hosting the awards this year with my mate Sharyn Casey! Love the chance to celebrate local talent, the music industry in Aotearoa is full of amazing artists that deserve the celebration and recognition… and we get to see some of them live!”
Also announced today is the performers set to take the stage at St Matthew-In-The-City in Auckland where the Kiwi music industry will gather to celebrate its achievements and recognise the best in an exciting class of emerging and established artists.
First up is band of brothers Coterie, who released their breakout debut album in 2022 after a string of successful singles, and are also nominated in the Best Record and Best New Artist categories.
Also performing is iconic singer-songwriter Bic Runga, nominated for the coveted Rolling Stone Global Award, a gong judged by Rolling Stone’s global staff members to acknowledge the Kiwi artist they just can’t get enough of. Her influence on New Zealand music over the past two decades has been immense, releasing five studio albums and winning over a dozen New Zealand Music Awards.
“It’s a privilege to return for the second edition of the Panhead Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards after last year’s hugely successful launch,” says Rolling Stone New Zealand Editor-in-Chief Poppy Reid. “We can’t wait to feature performances from the incredibly exciting Coterie, as well as the legend that is Bic Runga – a cross-section of the depth and variety of what the Kiwi music scene has to offer in 2023.”
The 2023 edition of the awards see a wide range of genres represented across four categories: Best Record, Best Single, Best New Artist, and the Rolling Stone Global Award. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
Meanwhile, Rolling Stone New Zealand has introduced several returning and new awards sponsors in 2023 alongside headline partner Panhead. These include Lion co, CANNA, Man O War, SO/ Auckland, and The Brag Media.
