Flume has shared a surprise album of unheard music.
The acclaimed producer decided to release the unexpected collection, cleverly titled Things Don’t Always Go The Way You Plan, after witnessing the positive reaction to the drop of his previously unreleased track, “Slugger 1.4 (2014 Export.WAV)”, last year.
“It’s been ten years since my first record came out, since then I’ve wrote a lot a lot music and not all of it has seen the light of day,” the electronic music star wrote on social media.
“After seeing the reaction to “Slugger 1.4″ and how much love it got, I figured it would be fun to release more of these forgotten ideas I from my old laptops. The whole process has been quite cathartic.”
The music on the surprise album was gathered from old laptops and dusty hard drives, almost forgotten as Flume worked on more pressing projects. And it contains some stellar collaborative artists – Injury Reserve, Isabella Manfredi, and Panda Bear all feature on tracks.

For Flume fans, it’s the ideal album for early 2023, a deep dive into the producer’s last decade in music; there are differing styles in the collection, from wonky mixtape beats to euphoric house anthems, charting Flume’s consistent experimentation throughout the last 10 years.
The surprise release comes after Flume topped triple’s Hottest 100 last month. The Sydney star took out the top spot in the countdown with his track “Say Nothing”, a rousing collaboration with MAY-A.
It was his second Hottest 100 win, following his triumph in 2016 for “Never Be Like You” (featuring Kai). Flume saw off strong competition from the likes of perennial Hottest 100 contenders Gang of Youths, producer-of-the-moment Fred again.., Spacey Jane and Steve Lacy to reach number one. Flume’s win brings his total tally of Hottest 100 inclusions to an impressive 17.
