Six60 have released their hugely-anticipated fourth album, Castle St, which lead singer Matiu Walter says is their “greatest work to date.”

The first album by the genre-hopping Kiwi band not to be self-titled, the title instead takes its name from the Dunedin street where some of the band’s members lived during their foundational university years. To promote the album, Six60 brought a replica of their Castle St house to Auckland’s Eden Park this month.

“It’s our greatest work to date. A real coming together of every member of the band to capture a unique moment in time. It’s the kind of album you can’t make in your bedroom and need to make with other great musicians. We are so excited to finally share it with the world,” Walter said about the album.

“It really lets you feel the breadth and spirit of Six60. An album that is real takes a lot of love and trust by the people involved and adding our fans into that circle is a really exciting next chapter,” he added.

Castle St‘s lead single, “Before You Leave”, was released last month, featuring Walter reflecting on becoming a father.

Following the release of Castle St, Six60 are about to embark on a huge tour of their home country over the next few months, with stellar special guests including Tones and I, Drax Project, and Lime Cordiale. They’ll then head Down Under for the Australian leg of their recently announced The Castle St World Tour.

Last month, Six60 won the award for Best Single (“Pepeha”) at the inaugural Panhead Rolling Stone New Zealand Awards. They saw off strong competition from the likes of international superstar Lorde (“Solar Power”) and BROODS (“I Keep”) to collect the award.
