Brisbane alt-pop sensation Hartley has delivered a mesmerising performance of her singles “Underwater” and “Mind” for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.
The last year has been a massive one for Brisbane’s Hartley who, having burst onto the scene back in 2019, officially released her self-titled debut EP back in January. Since then, she’s been hard at work becoming one of the country’s most prolific artists, sharing the likes of “Bittersweet” and “Feel Too Much”.
On Friday, Hartley returned with her latest single, “Underwater”, which was co-written with Gossling, and co-produced Perto.
“I started writing ‘Underwater’ in a little studio in Melbourne with Gossling, where we talked about having the realisation that something’s not all you hoped for it to be,” Hartley explained of the single. “I really wanted to apply that feeling to being underwater – something that can either be so peaceful or completely engulfing.
Now, with “Underwater” serving as the latest taste of her Feel Too Much EP campaign, Hartley has kicked off her ‘In My Room’ appearance with the stunning single.
Making use of a soft purple colour palette, Hartley is surrounded by a sparse musical setup, with a laptop and MIDI controllers helping to flesh out this gorgeous two-track performance.
After wrapping up her latest track, Hartley takes it back to the beginning, closing out her immersive set with a rendition of her 2019 single, “Mind”.
Hartley’s performance comes as the latest entry in the ‘In My Room’ series, which has so far featured appearances from acclaimed artists such as Cub Sport, Bad//Dreems, and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and will showcase a set from Lime Cordiale next weekend.
