The WOMAD NZ 2024 lineup has been expanded to include a diverse array of artists.
In addition to the previously announced headliners such as Ziggy Marley and Arooj Aftab, four global acts have been added to the roster: French House duo Braxe + Falcon, Irish folk sensations Lisa O’Neill & Cormac Begley, Estonian folk artist Mari Kalkun, and Aotearoa’s own Theia.
The festival has also announced speakers for the popular World of Words programme including Wellington comedian Kura Forrester, music writer and broadcaster Nick Bollinger, Manawatū based writer Helen Lehndorf, and Tom Sainsbury, fresh off the success of his Kiwi film, Loop Track (see the full line-up below).
WOMAD NZ will be held in New Plymouth between March 15th-17th. Tickets are on sale now via the official website.
The festival returned in style to celebrate its 20th anniversary earlier this year, receiving positive reviews from critics.
“WOMAD leaves you with much more than just three days in the sun. It leaves you with new food, new artists, and sometimes even new genres you never knew you loved,” the NZ Herald wrote. “To fully appreciate the spirit, it is best to spend the three days here in the magical botanic gardens. To experience the WOMAGIC,” was how The 13th Floor described the festival.
“WOMAD is still a place for all ages and all people. We still want to hear the stories, sing the songs, and gin the battles on behalf of the downtrodden, celebrate music and cultures in all their forms, just as Peter Gabriel envisaged,” wrote Ambient Light.
