An impressive variety of artists have been added to the WOMAD NZ 2024 lineup.

Joining the previously announced headliner Ziggy Marley are six acts from across the globe, including Grammy winner Arooj Aftab. Contemporary Irish folk group Lankum will come to New Zealand for the festival, fresh from being shortlisted for the 2023 Mercury Prize.

Ukrainian quartet DakhaBrakha, blues rock star Moonlight Benjamin will also make the trip from overseas, while Strawpeople and Rei will represent Aotearoa on the lineup.

The above acts join Ziggy Marley, who was named as the initial headliner last month. The socially conscious reggae icon has won eight Grammy Awards, and is the eldest son of Bob and Rita Marley. Over 40 years, Ziggy has cultivated his own path in music and activism.

WOMAD NZ will be held in New Plymouth between March 15th-17th. Tickets are on sale now via the official website.

The festival returned in style to celebrate its 20th anniversary earlier this year, receiving positive reviews from critics.

WOMAD leaves you with much more than just three days in the sun. It leaves you with new food, new artists, and sometimes even new genres you never knew you loved,” the NZ Herald wrote. “To fully appreciate the spirit, it is best to spend the three days here in the magical botanic gardens. To experience the WOMAGIC,” was how The 13th Floor described the festival.

“WOMAD is still a place for all ages and all people. We still want to hear the stories, sing the songs, and gin the battles on behalf of the downtrodden, celebrate music and cultures in all their forms, just as Peter Gabriel envisaged,” wrote Ambient Light.
