Auckland indie-rockers Voom are back, with a new album and a fresh run of tour dates.

The band’s long-awaited full-length, Something Good Is Happening, lands Friday, May 16th via Flying Nun Records – their first in nearly 20 years, following 2006’s Hello, Are You There?.

To celebrate, they’re hitting the road for a four-date Aotearoa tour, kicking off at Auckland’s Double Whammy on Friday, May 23rd. From there, they’ll head to Raglan’s The Yard on Saturday, May 24th, before wrapping up the following weekend with shows at Lyttelton’s The Loons in Christchurch on Friday, May 30th, and Wellington’s San Fran on Saturday, May 31st.

Tickets are on sale now at moshtix.co.nz.

The new album is the result of years of writing, reworking and reflecting, with frontman Buzz Moller joined by Murray Fisher (Goodshirt), Nick Buckton (aka sidekicknick), and Josh Sorenson.

Lead single “Trouble” explores the kind of craving that makes you bend the rules. “It’s not just a boy-girl story,” says Moller. “It’s about anything you crave enough to break the rules for.”

Described by the band as “the child of strange seasons and tides, strange minds, pedals, and fingers,” the record was pieced together across various locations, with each member taking turns as multi-instrumentalists and producers.

For longtime fans, Something Good Is Happening strikes a familiar chord, promising fuzzy pop hooks, heartfelt ballads and just enough sonic weirdness to keep things interesting.

Last year, the band released two other new tracks: the cosmic, laid-back “Everyone“, and the jangly “Martin Phillipps”, a tribute to The Chills legend.
