Tropical Fuck Storm to Premiere Feature Film, ‘Goody Goody Gumdrops’

Described as “82 mins you’ll never get back”, Tropical Fuck Storm will premiere their film with a handful of screenings next month.

Months after the release of their latest album, Deep States, Melbourne’s Tropical Fuck Storm have announced their debut into the world of feature-length film making, with Goody Goody Gumdrops set to receive its official premiere next month.

Described as being something akin to an “absurd, comical observation, musical documentary” and a live album launch all in one, the 82-minute feature is set over three days on the banks of the Goulburn River, at Tropical Fuck Storm’s headquarters deep in central Victoria.

Referencing the feel of the Australian Western and Australian Gothic film history (with specific mind paid to Ted Kotcheff’s Wake in Fright and Peter Weir’s The Cars That Ate Paris and Picnic at Hanging Rock), the film follows the band through their “abject, weird and beautiful regional world” as they begin their weekend at their studio-come-cocktail lounge before various performances culminate in a raucous rock show in a barn.

Described as being “82 mins of your life you will never get back”, the film was directed by both Nina Renee and the band themselves in response to a global pandemic halting their plans of bringing the album to their fans. Thus, with this film set to do the heavy lifting ahead of the band’s rescheduled tourGoody Goody Gumdrops undoubtedly looks to capture Tropical Fuck Storm’s unique outlook mixed in with their trademark laidback irreverence.

With the film set to be released wordwide via Mandolin on December 8th (with tickets on sale now), a special run of Cinema screenings are also set to take place around the country around its release. Full details of these screenings are available below.
