Tkay Maidza’s new album is finally here.

The hotly-anticipated follow-up to her 2016 self-titled debut, which earned two nominations at the 2017 ARIA Awards (Best Urban Album and Breakthrough Artist), Sweet Justice is “a breakup record” in the traditional sense, with the songs on the album detailing Tkay’s battles to overcome her self-doubt and warped sense of self.

Sweet Justice was a way for me to channel my emotions from what I’ve experienced in the last two years,” she says. “It’s a diary of things and thoughts I’ve kept to myself. Making the record was a healing experience and I’m grateful to have worked with producers who have inspired me throughout my career.””

The album features the singles “Silent Assassin”, a thrilling collaboration with Flume, “Ring-a-Ling”, a track about finding confidence in one’s self, and “Out of Luck”, in which Tkay confidently calls out time wasters.

And to go along with today’s release is the producer and singer’s final album single, “Won One”, a track that addresses the misogyny in the music industry.

“‘Won One’ was therapeutic to write. I don’t feel bad about anything that I said. It was almost like automatic writing – I didn’t overthink it, I didn’t edit any word that I put in,” Tkay says of the single.

Now that her album’s out in the world, Tkay’s attention now turns to her record release tour. She’ll perform two headline dates later this month, one at The Forum in Melbourne and one at Sydney’s UNSW Roundhouse (see full details below).

“Excited to come back and play headline shows after all the supports and festivals this year – it’s always so special playing and it feels like a celebration,” she says.

Tkay Maidza’s Sweet Justice is out now via Dew Process & Universal Music Australia.
