The intimate run of shows will see The Whitlams’ frontman launching “Ballad of Bertie Kidd”, the band’s first new single since 2006.

Tim Freedman has announced a rare solo tour of the country, set to see the acclaimed artist perform intimate venues as he launches the long-awaited new single from The Whitlams.

Set to take place this November, the nine-show tour will see Freedman performing at intimate venues across New South Wales, with a tour-closer scheduled for Canberra.

Though tours from The Whitlams are a welcome affair, a solo jaunt from the group’s frontman and founder is a rare event. To make the shows even more special than they’re already planned to be, the tour will also see Freedman launching “Ballad of Bertie Kidd”, the first new single from The Whitlams since 2006.

Described as “a six-minute crime caper thatdescribes a little known escapade in the long career of one of Australia’s most notorious criminals,” news of the single may come as something of a surprise to some fans, with The Whitlams previously announcing their new single as “Gaffage and Clink” – a tribute to long-time tour manager Greg Weaver, who passed away suddenly in 2019.

News of this single arrived earlier this year alongside plans for an extensive national tour from the group. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected these plans, with the tour now set to take place in August and September of 2021.

Given the personal nature behind the track, it’s likely that this song will be officially launched at a time of greater stability. In the meantime, further details around the release of “Ballad of Bertie Kidd” are expected to be announced soon, with tickets to Tim Freedman’s solo tour set to go on sale from midday on Tuesday, September 22nd.
