The Whitlams Reschedule ‘Gaffage and Clink’ Tour to 2021

“Pushing it back a whole year seems a long time, but I think some prudence now will pay off for us all in the long run,” explains The Whitlams’ Tim Freedman

The Whitlams have now moved their previously-planned tour dates for August and September 2020 back on year.

With their latest national tour originally set to kick off in just over a month, Australian mainstays The Whitlams have rescheduled their latest trek, pushing back their dates until August and September of 2021.

First announcing their “Gaffage and Clink” tour back in February, 2020 was on track to be a big year for the Sydney outfit, led by frontman Tim Freedman. Despite not releasing a new record since 2006’s Little Cloud, Freedman, the group revealed that their tour’s namesake would also share the name of their first single in 14 years.

Named after some backstage lingo, the forthcoming track celebrates the relationship between the group and their long-time tour manager Greg Weaver, who passed away suddenly in 2019.

However, plans to tour in support of this soon-to-be-released song were upended when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, meaning the group were forced to postpone their almost two-month trek around the country.

Now, they’ve revealed that the previously-planned tour dates will instead take place one year later than first intended, featuring the same support acts as the original tour – including the likes Ben Lee, Alex Lloyd, Phil Jamieson, Emily Wurramara, and Emma Russack.

“We couldn’t wait to get stuck into this tour, but we have decided to be patient and make sure it still goes ahead as originally intended – with the same great bills in the same great venues, with lots of joyful, carefree full houses,” Freedman explained in a statement.

“Pushing it back a whole year seems a long time, but I think some prudence now will pay off for us all in the long run.”

All exisiting ticketholders need not take any action in regards to these rescheduled dates, with all tickets remaining valid for the new dates. Tickets are available for shows in each city from The Whitlams’ website, with the exception of the Canberra Theatre Centre show originally scheduled for August 27th, which will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

While The Whitlams are planning to release new music later this year, Freedman recently released a solo version of “Beautiful as You”, which was recorded at Byron Bay’s Rockinghorse Studio in mid-May.
