Thelma Plum has released her first single of the year ahead of supporting Coldplay in Perth.

Given its global premiere on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show, “We Don’t Talk About It” is he first taste of new music from Thelma since her acclaimed 2022 EP, Meanjin.

“My new song ‘We Don’t Talk About It’ is finally out!” the singer-songwriter says. “This song is deeply personal and I’ve been itching/anxious to share it with you all – I’m so happy that release day is here at last.”

The track, which is Thelma’s first drop of 2023, is accompanied by an official music video (watch below). The clip was directed by Sarah Dattani Tucker and shot in East London.

Thelma has won several awards this year, including Album of the Year (Meanjin) at the 2023 National Indigenous Music Awards. One of the EP’s songs, “Backseat of My Mind”, was shortlisted for APRA Song of the Year at the 2023 APRA Awards, while Thelma triumphed in the Best Pop Act category at this year’s National Live Music Awards.

Thelma’s about to have a busy few weeks on the live circuit. Following two nights supporting Coldplay at Perth’s Optus Stadium on the weekend of Saturday, November 18th and Sunday, November 19th, she’ll appear at Great Southern Nights on Friday, November 24th. She’ll then head to Tasmania for the Forth Pub 151 Festival on Saturday, December 9th to close out the year, followed by a Tamworth show on Tuesday, January 23rd.

Thelma isn’t the only artist supporting Coldplay in Perth this weekend. The English rock band recently announced the winners of a competition to find the opener for their Perth shows, with WA artists Adrian Dzvuke and King Ibis beating out the rest of the entrants. Coldplay will also be supported by Amy Shark at both shows.

Thelma Plum’s “We Don’t Talk About It” is out now.
