One week on from having teased the release of new music and their first album in six years, The Veronicas have shared “Biting My Tongue” alongside a trailer for its upcoming video.
First alluded to last Friday, The Veronicas revealed via social media that July 3rd would bring with it the release of their latest single, set to be taken from their forthcoming record, HUMAN.
Though the duo – comprised of sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso – haven’t released a full-length album since 2014’s self-titled affair, they’ve been prolific nonetheless, sharing a number of singles in that time. One of these songs – 2016’s “In My Blood” – gave the pair their third chart-topping single in Australia, though no word of a new album was shared in that time.
Now, with HUMAN set to be released at some point in the near future (no formal release date has been revealed as yet), The Veronicas have shared “Biting My Tongue” as what is ostensibly the first single from the record.
An exuberant pop anthem which captures the pair at their absolute best, “Biting My Tongue” serves as a taste of the next chapter in the life of The Veronicas.
“‘Biting My Tongue’ is about saying everything you’ve been holding back,” Lisa and Jess explain of the track. “When desire sits on the tip of your tongue and you don’t know if you should share your feelings and risk it all, or hold it in and risk never knowing.
“We’ve both taken risks in love. We are naturally curious people. I think we would always feel it was a tragedy to love someone and to allow fear of their reaction stop us from knowing if they might feel the same. So writing this was like a confession pouring out.
“Most people have that one moment that they either took the risk, or lost the chance… either way, everyone is changed by that moment.”
Co-written with Australian songwriting and production team David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii, aka DNA Songs (who are also behind singles such as “You Ruin Me” and “In My Blood”), The Veronicas are set to perform their new single for the first time on The Voice this Tuesday, July 7th.
The single’s release also comes alongside a trailer for its accompanying music video, which sees The Veronicas taking on directorial duties.
