2021 is set to be a wildly prolific year for The Veronicas, with Lisa and Jessica Origliasso announcing the arrival of two new albums and an extensive Australian tour.
Arriving just over one month apart, the first of these records – GODZILLA – is set to be released on May 28th, and will serve as the first record from the pair since their self-titled third album in 2014. While The Veronicas have released new singles since 2016’s “In My Blood”, details of their next full-length works had remained unclear until last year, when the duo announced that HUMAN would be released in the near future.
Again, details remained unclear at the time, with the pair now re-emerging in 2021 with a much more solid vision of what this year is set to hold. While GODZILLA will arrive at the end of May, the previously-announced HUMAN will follow closely behind with a release date of July 2nd.
Designed to highlight two difference sides of the twins – with GODZILLA focusing on their public alter egos and HUMAN showcasing their existence as vulnerable songwriters – the first of these records sees the re-emergence of the writing trinity that includes the Origliasso twins and Toby Gad for the first time since 2007’s “Untouched”.
“We all create without limitations,” Jess and Lisa explain of the partnership. “Throwing our deepest ideas at each other and following it to wherever it takes us. We focus heavily on the sonic layers of guitars and synth first. Toby allows us to melt genres together in a way we don’t get to with anyone else. We all create without any preconceived notion of what we are going to walk away with.”
To celebrate the release of the new albums, The Veronicas have also shared a teaser video for GODZILLA, along with the title track, and dates for a mammoth Australian tour – their first national run in six years.
Beginning in early, June, the duo’s tour will see them visit all states and territories in just over three weeks, with the trek taking place in between the release of the two records. Similarly, a press release notes that the format will lean on the concept of two records, with audiences “taken aboard a flight simulation on Veronicas Airlines before the concert splits into two parts, providing a special performance that showcases the two very different sides of the sisters”.
“Touring live is the greatest energy hit,” The Veronicas explained in a statement. “Transforming from a dance party to emotional sing-a-longs, we’ve missed it so much. We can’t wait to be back on stage with you all again.”
The Veronicas’ “GODZILLA” is out now, while the album of the same name will be released on May 28th, with pre-orders available now. The pair will release HUMAN on July 2nd, while tickets to their upcoming tour are on sale from March 31st.
