The Rubens Share New Single, ‘Muddy Evil Pain’

The new single serves as the fifth and final taster of The Rubens’ highly-anticipated new record, 0202, which arrives next month.

As the release date for their long-awaited 0202 album draws nearer, The Rubens have added to the anticipation with the release of their latest single, the majestic “Muddy Evil Pain”.

A strong representation of the band’s continuing growth as artists, “Muddy Evil Pain” begins softly, slowly growing in intensity as it provides a fifth and final taster of their forthcoming self-produced record.

“‘Muddy Evil Pain’ is a good indicator as to how we’ve grown as a band sonically,” the group explain. “It’s essentially a folk-gospel song blended with heavily distorted pulsing synths, something we never would have considered doing on our first record but now comes naturally. It’s got so much energy, one we can’t wait to play live.”

Originally set for a mid-2020 release, The Rubens had their plans disrupted due to the advent of COVID-19, with recording and touring goals soon shifting rapidly. While the group did continue to release singles during this unexpected downtime – including “Heavy Weather”, “Time of My life”, and “Masterpiece” – their fourth record is finally on track to be released on February 12th.

With their national tour currently on track to kick off in April, The Rubens also recently announced a small run of intimate album launch shows across New South Wales for next month. Tickets are on sale to the general public from 8am AEDT, Monday, February 1st, while the group’s website currently has ticket bundles available for those who are yet to pre-order their new record.

The Rubens’ “Muddy Evil Pain” is out now, while 0202 will be released on February 12th, 2021 via Ivy League Records, with pre-orders available now.
