The Jezabels Announce ‘Prisoner’ Ten-Year Anniversary Tour

“It’s been a hell of a decade since it came out, but it’s made us all the more grateful for some of the things we took for granted.”

The Jezabels are set to honour their debut record next year, announcing a national ten-year anniversary tour for their 2011 album, Prisoner.

Originally released in September of 2011, Prisoner was a long time coming for the group, having been preceded by a trilogy of EPs in the years prior. Having already amassed a strong live following and critical acclaim, Prisoner was a widespread success upon its release, hitting number two on the ARIA charts, nabbing the nomination for Australian Album of the Year at the 2011 J Awards, and even winning the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

Spawning a handful of successful singles (including the resonant “Endless Summer”), Prisoner helped The Jezabels go from an indie-success story to big players on the local scene.

Following up the record with The Brink in 2014, and Synthia in 2016, The Jezabels have been only sporadically active in recent years, with members – namely vocalist Hayley Mary and keyboardist Heather Shannon – focusing on solo material.

Now though, The Jezabels are embarking on their first national tour in a few years, announcing plans to give Prisoner the proper anniversary tribute it deserves.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be getting back together again for an Australian tour to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our debut album Prisoner,” the group said in a statement. “We are pleased to say we’ll be playing this baby live in full for the first time. It’s been a hell of a decade since it came out, but it’s made us all the more grateful for some of the things we took for granted.

“Like so many bands, playing our records live was always as important, if not more important, than making those records. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Prisoner and say thank you to our fans that have supported us over the years than to announce this tour. We hope you can join us.”

Kicking off in Adelaide on June 3rd, 2022, the tour will see the group visit Fremantle, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, Sydney, and finally Melbourne on the extensive tour.

While The Jezabels recently released a vinyl reissue of Prisoner, the group will also be releasing a limited edition 7″ vinyl recording of “City Girl”, recorded live at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre in 2011. The vinyl will only be made available for ticket buyers to purchase, with more details available via Live Nation.
