Teenage Joans Share New Single, ‘Ice Cream’, Announce Debut EP

“One of our favourite things to do in our songs is juxtaposing serious topics using childlike metaphors to get the point across in a different way.”

Adelaide duo Teenage Joans are gearing up to take the next big step in their already-impressive career, sharing new single “Ice Cream” alongside the news of their debut EP.

Released today, “Ice Cream” was premiered on triple j earlier this week, serving as the first scoop of new music from the group since January’s “Something About Being Sixteen”. Since the release of this last single, the pair – made up of Tahlia Borg and Cahli Blakers – have ticked off a few more milestones, with a brief tour with fellow Adelaideans TOWNS, and a placing in the triple j Hottest 100 for their breakthrough single “Three Leaf Clover”.

Almost custom-made for a raucous reception on the live stage, “Ice Cream” is the perfect piece of relatable alt-rock, mixing in cathartic lyrics of uncertainty with a chantable chorus that aims to unify fans in a call to feel better about oneself.

“‘Ice Cream’ is about feeling like your best just isn’t good enough,” the pair succinctly explain. “Sometimes in life it feels like you’re trying so much harder than the people around you, but you’re still falling behind (like getting a head start in the race of life, but still placing last).

“We wanted people screaming along to wanting to feel better, like a toddler screams about wanting their ice cream,” they add. “One of our favourite things to do in our songs is juxtaposing serious topics using childlike metaphors to get the point across in a different way.”

“Ice Cream” is set to appear on the forthcoming debut EP from Teenage Joans, with Taste of Me slated to be released on May 28th. The arrival of the EP will also coincide with a number of tour dates from the pair, who are on track to tour alongside The Chats and Bugs across the month. Full details of their tour dates with The Chats are available below, while Bugs dates are yet to be unveiled.

Teenage Joans’ “Ice Cream” is out now, while their Taste of Me EP will arrive on May 28th.
