While they whizz their way around European lands, Teenage Dads have shared their new single, “Speedracer”.
The song is – you guessed it – a reference to the classic ’60s anime (and later 2008 film) Speed Racer. “Speedracer” is the person that sends your heart racing at a 1000 miles per hour without a second thought,” the band say.
“Speedracer” isn’t as exhilarating as Teenage Dads’ recent song “Teddy”, which zoomed past at an impressively breakneck pace; the speed is slightly tempered here, allowing the band’s funky basslines and vibrant synths to dominate. “You’re my speed racer,” Jordan Finlay sings softly a number of times.
The Melbourne outfit are making this polished indie rock lark seem rather easy in 2023. “Speedracer” is the swift follow-up to the Midnight Driving EP, which earned plaudits upon its release in March (read the band’s track-by-track breakdown of the EP). At this current moment, everything Teenage Dads produce is driving and dynamic, with barely a note put wrong.
Following their Northern Hemisphere visit, Teenage Dads will to their home country for a massive tour. After an appearance at Splendour in the Grass, the band will perform 30 shows across Australia and New Zealand, comfortably their biggest headline tour to date.
They’ll be joined by some fine local talent on the tour, including Death By Denim, Betty Taylor, The Moving Stills and more.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, June 8th at 10am AEST. The pre-sale begins on Tuesday, June 6th at 10am AEST.
