Tame Impala has stripped back a new favourite for his fans, offering up an acoustic version of his recent album tune, “On Track”.
Arriving by way of a performance video recorded in his Perth home, the clip sees Kevin Parker in front of a pair of Hammond organs, armed only with an acoustic guitar. Dressed in all black, Parker’s immersive voice seems to capture the feelings of 2020 for everyone watching: “I know it’s been a slow year, nothin’ much to show here,” he sings.
This isn’t the first time that Parker has performed a stripped back version of the track from his recent album, The Slow Rush. In addition to making an appearance during his segment as part of the Music From the Home Front concert back in April, Parker also shared a version of the song for Hedi Slimane’s curated performer series which aired on the Celine Instagram in mid-June.
Though it’s become a big hit online thanks to these performances, Parker has yet to play the track live during one of his Tame Impala concerts. Although this year was set to see widespread touring for his new album, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed back all forthcoming shows to a future date.
Tame Impala are however set to perform a long-awaited Australian tour in December of this year, rescheduling the dates that were originally set to take place in April.
