Tkay Maidza has continued her status as one of Australia’s leading hip-hop talents, releasing the latest single from her forthcoming EP today.

Titled “Don’t Call Again”, the new track follows on from the release of “Shook” back in May, and sees the acclaimed artist teamed up with American rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer Kari Faux to create a groove-laden anthem that showcases both acts at their very best.

Complemented by the release of an animated clip, the video is co-directed by both Tkay and Jordan Kirk, along with animation by Babekuhl (Justin Bieber, Free Nationals, TOKiMONSTA). The end result is kaleidoscopic creation that showcases Tkay and Faux alongside hypnotic shapes and illustrations.

“We got to have a little bit of fun for this video,” Kirk explained of the video. “Isolation and lockdown measures meant that there were a number of limitations, but we leaned into this, with Tkay shooting everything in her bedroom over Facetime calls, and then having the team at Babekuhl create animation around the live action footage.

“We were lucky that this style of clip meant that we could also incorporate Kari Faux properly, with her shooting her part in Arkansas and sending the footage to us.”

“Don’t Call Again” serves as the latest single to be lifted off of Tkay’s forthcoming EP, Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2, which serves as the second chapter in her Last Year Was Weird trilogy. Following on from the release of standalone tracks such as “IDC IF U BE DED” and the JPEGMAFIA-featuring “Awake” in 2019, the latter will appear on the EP when it arrives on August 7th.

Tkay Maidza’s “Don’t Call Again” is available now via Dew Process/4AD, while Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2will be released on August 7th, with pre-saves available now.
