Tkay Maidza Shares Audio and Video for New Single, ‘Shook’

“Shook” serves as the first new piece of music from Tkay Maidza since 2019, and comes alongside a music video filmed in an abandoned car yard.

Tkay Maidza has returned with her first song of the year, sharing the powerful “Shook” earlier today.

Premiering on triple j’s Breakfast this morning, “Shook” follows on from Tkay’s 2019 singles “IDC IF U BE DED”, and “Awake’, the latter of which featured US artist JPEGMAFIA. Released alongside the news of an international label signing to 4AD, Maidza joins some musical luminaries, including the likes of Grimes, Purity Ring, and much more.

Further proving her status as Australia’s queen of hip-hop, “Shook” sees Tkay mixing new and old school instrumentation to create a powerful beat-driven single that shows off her lyrical prowess.

A confident, masterful track, “Shook” comes accompanied by a slick video directed by Jenna Marsh (Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj). Filmed in an abandoned car yard, the visual features tributes to Missy Elliot, and showcases Tkay’s genuine aesthetic as she effortlessly claims her title as one of Australia’s most in-demand artists.

While Tkay Maidza’s future music plans are currently unclear, the Adelaide artist has been teasing the release of new music for some time, causing many fans to speculate that a follow-up to 2018’s Last Year Was Weird (Vol. 1) EP may be on the way at some point
