With just a matter of days to go until the festive season reaches its peak, beloved Melbourne artist Georgia Maq has given fans a little festive treat by way of her latest single for the year, “Joe Rogan”.

Described as being a “cheeky examination of taste and boundaries in the dating world”, the new single sees Maq shining an empowering, self-reflective light upon herself as she speaks about asserting autonomy and upholding standards even while dating the stereotypical Joe Rogan fan.

“I made this song alone in my house,” Maq explains of the track. “It’s a burn on myself because of my historically bad taste.

“It’s a song about leaving a bad date because you realised you don’t have to sit around while some guy defends Joe Rogan and smokes a Gatorade bong, it’s about a very… unique experience that isn’t actually that unique – I think it’s relatable.”

Self-recorded and produced by Maq while stuck in quarantine, “Joe Rogan” is bolstered by luscious instrumentation and her own soaring vocals, and complemented by additional vocal layers from friends, and a handful of spoken word samples.

Meanwhile, the track also comes accompanied by a video produced by Tori Styles of Wildrose Pictures, and follows Maq around both Footscray and her home, with the latter featuring footage of the song’s namesake projected upon its walls.

Having first made its appearance during livestreams performed during the year, the arrival of “Joe Rogan” is undoubtedly something fans have been yearning for for quite some time. The track itself follows on from a busy year for Maq, which included the release of the Alice Ivy-featuring “Someone Stranger” back in July, and the arrival of Camp Cope’s “Blue” – their first new single in three years.

Though its currently unknown whether Georgia Maq is on track to follow up her 2019 solo debut album with another in the near future, it appears as though she’s staying as busy as possible, with not only a new Camp Cope album on the way, but a live performance scheduled for the Melbourne Museum at the end of January.
