G Flip is back with another piece of new music, sharing her latest solo single, “You & I” today. Premiering on triple j yesterday, the slick track sees Georgia Flipo delivering a sentimental ode to past relationships.
“‘You & I’ is a LGBTQIA+ love anthem,” G Flip explains of the track. “It’s about being able to look at someone and the whole world just becomes background noise to your epic love story and it feels like it’s only you and that other person standing on the planet.
“It’s a highlight reel of beautiful moments to me. It’s extremely bittersweet as I wrote this song when I was crazy in love and I’m currently healing from a break up. It was written in a couple of hours while I was in London with a producer named Bastian….and it’s my mum’s favourite song.”
The new single follows on from a handful of releases from G Flip in 2020, beginning with her performance of “Lady Marmalade” for triple j’s Like a Version back in March. In May, she unveiled the highly-anticipated studio version “Hyperfine”, before following it up with a new version of the track featuring the vocals of US artist LoveLeo.
In July, G Flip also unveiled a collaboration with Illy titled “Loose Ends”. “I’m a huge fan of G Flip, and her vocals gave the track extra feeling,” Illy explained at the time. “Now I can’t imagine it without her.”
As it stands, G Flip’s last studio album came by way of About Us, which arrived in August of 2019. The album peaked at number six on the local charts, and scored two nominations at the annual ARIA Awards, including Breakthrough Artist and Best Independent Release.
While new music has been arriving throughout 2020, it’s currently unknown whether or not tracks like “Hyperfine” and “You & I” are set to appear on a forthcoming project from the acclaimed artist.
