Gold Coast artist EUCA has already spent a few years making a name for herself due to her emotional integrity and heavenly melodies, but as she releases new single “Only Fools”, it’s clear she’s unveiled one of her best pieces of work to date.
Describing herself as a lyricist first and foremost, “Only Fools” also plays into EUCA’s own self-proclamation as an over-sharer, with the track going deep and unfurling as one of her darkest releases yet. Against deceptively luscious instrumentation, she battles thoughts of self harm and destruction, with the lyrics seeing her wonder why her partner still stays, and her hope that personal change may save him from hurt.
It’s a story that many know far too well, but one that is never discussed much, with “Only Fools” effectively arriving to help start conversations which, while difficult, are more relevant and important than ever.
With Cody Costa on drums and Harrison Norman on bass, the simplistic three-piece setup have crafted a track that is as stunning as it is confronting, with its sweeping instrumentation bolstering the deep, resonant lyrics that plea for understanding and clarity.
With “Only Fools” officially out in the world today, EUCA has recently kicked off a run of dates in Queensland to launch the single. Having started last night, the tour continues this evening with a show at Brisbane’s Felons Barrel Hall, before gigs at Maroochydore’s SolBar and Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge cap things off later in the month. Full tour details for the remaining dates are available below.
