Perth’s Eli Greeneyes has recently unveiled one of the year’s most sensational indie rock numbers, capturing the euphoria and catharsis of big ’90s rock anthems with the brilliant “She Don’t Care”.
A relative newcomer to the scene, Eli Greeneyes has been sharing a number of hard-hitting singles over the last two years, with his talents also being heard on the likes of Drapht’s recently-released album, Shadows and Shinings, which sees the WA-based artist guesting on two tracks.
However, even a cursory look at his solo material is enough to see why Eli Greeneyes is becoming an in-demand performer, with recent single “She Don’t Care” illustrating the immense talent he yields. A guitar-driven pop-rock anthem, the track is reminiscent of genre icons such as Oasis and Blur, mixed with the more modern sensibilities of names such as YUNGBLUD. It’s catchy, it’s evocative, and it hits hard in both the head and the heart.
“‘She Don’t Care’ is about someone from my past who came along at a time when I was having a lot of mental health issues,” explains Eli Greeneyes. “Their intentions were extremely different to mine and I was listening to them too much instead of trusting my own intentions and instincts! I lost myself.
“When I wrote it I thought it was their fault, but now I realise that I also played a part in letting it take that direction. I had to write this song to gain back my true ‘not taking shit’ self.”
The single is also paired with a video, directed by Eli Greeneyes, James Mooney, and Ben Matei, which intersperses shots of Eli performing the track with segments in which a a woman is seen pointing and yelling in his face, all while he resiliently ignores the interruption.
“The concept was created by my friends James Mooney, Ben Matei and I,” he explains. “We wanted it to be predominantly a performance based video with an underlying simple narrative of self destruction and attracting the wrong people in your life…
“Everyone involved with the clip is creative in their own light with something to say and achieve. They are all my best friends who I want to take on this journey.”
Eli Greeneyes is also set to perform a special single launch show at the Indian Ocean Hotel in Scarborough on September 24th, with full details available below.
