As they gear up for a huge tour of Australia and Aotearoa, Soaked Oats have shared a gorgeous music video for their single, “Pink Beach”.
“Pink Beach” is a collaboration with Ōtautahi multi-instrumentalist Motte, a highlight from the indie pop band’s excellent 2022 album Working Title. A furtively sweet track, it simmers with simple beauty, recalling the quiet elegance of Devendra Banhart on his 2013 album Mala.
It also sounded ideal to score a montage of idyllic beachfront scenes, which is what Soaked Oats have done on their newly released music video.
Filmed by Jake Mein – Oscar from the band’s brother – around West Coast spot Cape Foulwind, the video captures the beautiful scenery from sunrise to sunset. It’s a real family affair, with the pair’s father and Jake’s child featuring in the clip (Oscar also handled the editing).
There was a reason they chose that particular location. “Jake told me he wanted to make a video for this song, and it didn’t take much to see it taking place on the West Coast – an area we’re connected to via our Dad,” Oscar explains. “So I sent him over there with a limited amount of film, and the rule of shooting from sunrise to sunset, to create a visual ode to a place that is a part of him, a part of his father, and becoming a part of his children.”
As Oscar explains – and the hazy video certainly conveys – “there’s something in there between the sea, the sand, himself, his Dad, his child, and time.”
Oscar and the rest of Soaked Oats are about to embark on their Australia and New Zealand next month. Beginning in Brisbane on Friday, March 10th, the band will then visit eight cities before concluding the tour in Auckland on Saturday, April 1st (see full dates below).
