slowthai is doing his part for the Auckland flood recovery with a fundraising event this week.
The U.K. rapper will take to the stage at Galatos on Wednesday, February 1st, for a surprise show, with support provided by London MC and producer Knucks.
Tickets can be bought now via Under The Radar, and all proceeds will be going to the New Zealand Red Cross, who have been bravely battling the extensive citywide damage since last Friday.
“Our hearts are with Aucklanders as the extensive damage and chaos continue to unfold after record-breaking rainfall inundated the city,” the New Zealand Red Cross writes on its website.
“We’re proud to be a small part of an enormous response and recovery effort. We are on the ground across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland working with Auckland Emergency Management and other agencies to support those in need. We’ve called in extra people from around Aotearoa New Zealand – Whanganui, Christchurch and Taranaki.”
slowthai was in Aotearoa to perform at the Auckland leg of Laneway, which was cancelled due to the flooding. After his fundraising show at Galatos, he’ll head to Australia to perform at Laneway in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney (more information here).
The rapper recently announced his third studio album, UGLY, which is set for release on March 3rd (pre-save/pre-order here). It’s the follow-up to 2021’s Tyron, a number 13 hit in New Zealand that year.
“The first album was the sound of where I’m from and everything I thought I knew,” slowthai said in a statement. “The second album is what was relevant to me at that moment in time, the present. And this album is completely me — about how I feel and what I want to be… it’s everything I’ve been leading up to.”
slowthai shared the searing lead single “Selfish’ to mark his album announcement, which sees him fiercely rapping over brooding post-punk production (listen below).
slowthai’s UGLY is out March 3rd via Method Records/Interscope Records.
